Raising money through sport
Bone Cancer - Triathlon
Tom Sheffle
I’m a 30 year old male, from Essex (South East England). I’m a primary school teacher in Dagenham, husband & father to 1 amazing daughter.
In 2010 I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (bone cancer - 10th left rib). I had approximately 14 months of treatment in UCLH London & Royal Brompton; chemotherapy (pre & post resection) and rib resection surgery.
Ever since I was given the all clear I was determined to push myself and in turn hopefully raise some money (for BCRT - having raised just over £10,000 to date). I have become a keen (very amateur, runner and triathlete). This summer I will complete my first full ironman (Wales, Tenby in September). I completed my first half ironman in Exmoor last year.
I became aware of Lucy Gossage through Twitter - and follow her career really closely. I am in awe of her dedication. Her dedication to cancer, as a doctor and her dedication to triathlon, as one of the best women competitors out there.
